Resend (email)
Matilda sends three kinds of email through Resend: the handoff notification when a lead becomes qualified, the six-digit codes leads use to sign in to the web chat, and the test email from the Setup page. Every one of them goes out as Matilda, from her own address.
Settings
| Setting | Env var | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| API key | RESEND_API_KEY | |
| From address | RESEND_FROM | Matilda's own address, for example Matilda <matilda@yourdomain.com>. The domain must be verified in Resend. |
| Notification list | MATILDA_NOTIFY_EMAILS | Comma-separated. Receives handoff emails. |
| A person reads replies | MATILDA_EMAIL_INBOX | Tick it when the From address is a real mailbox or alias the team reads. Matilda then gives leads her email when they ask where to send documents; off, she never mentions it. |
| Public URL | MATILDA_PUBLIC_URL | Used only to build the lead sheet link in the email |
The key and the From address are required together. Leaving them blank disables email. The lead sheet and PDF still work, and web-chat codes are printed to the server log instead of sent.
Verifying the domain
Add the From address's domain in Resend and create the DNS records it shows (a DKIM record, plus an MX and a TXT record on the return-path subdomain). Resend's default return path is the send subdomain; if another mailer already uses it, open Advanced options when adding the domain and pick a different return path such as rs. Matilda's Test button tells you whether the domain is verified yet.
Test
Two buttons in the Email panel:
- Test validates the key against Resend's read-only domains endpoint and checks that the From address's domain is verified. It sends nothing.
- Send test email sends a real message to the address you are signed in with, using the values in the form even before they are saved. If Resend rejects it, the panel shows Resend's reason, for example an unverified domain.
Recent emails
The panel lists the last few emails Matilda handed to Resend, each marked sent or failed with the reason. Login codes themselves are never stored, only who they went to.
Handoff email
Sent once per lead, on the first transition to qualified. Contains a link to the lead sheet and the PDF, with a plain-text twin. Later status changes do not resend it.
Login codes
Each web-chat sign-in emails a code valid for ten minutes by default, with five attempts before it is burned. The login page names the address the code comes from. Rate limits per phone and per IP are configurable. See Configuration.
